STEM – English & Mathematics Studies

  • Campers 5-7
Mathematic Studies Math classes are designed so they are fun and they are taught in small groups by a certified OCT Math teacher. Students are grouped together based on their academic level. Our enriched curriculum has components from Singapore and Shanghai Math. Each week, a select set of Math topics from the upcoming school year is covered. Students are introduced to computational exercises and work on word problems to help them develop a deeper understanding of translating word-based concepts into formulas using real world application. At the end of the week, students work in pairs to solve problems and compete to win prizes.

English Studies The English class is taught in a small group by an OCT certified English teacher. Small class size ensures each student feels comfortable participating in group discussions and working with their peers. Each week, students are asked to read a series of fun and thought provoking articles. The teacher explains the articles, introduces new vocabulary, and highlights the writing technique. The teacher then guides discussions where each student is encouraged to express their thoughts, and challenge or support those of their peers. Students are also given a written assignment where they write about a related subject. The teacher assists each student to edit their work. At the end of the week, the students will present their work and awarded prizes in recognition of their work.

First Lego League Canada annually hosts a robotics competition called “First Lego League Challenge” competition. The students will be fully engaged throughout each week, (and we encourage parents to sign-up for at least two to three weeks); as they learn about LEGO robotics and coding in a fun team atmosphere.

They’ll learn as a team the process on planning, designing, building and programming their competitive robot to solve mini-challenges as the team gets to know each other through team-building exercises while staying physically active through lunch outdoor activities, including sports and games, such as Ultimate Frisbee, Capture the Flag, Bocce Ball, and Dodge Ball.

The week closes with a Parent Showcase, allowing parents to see what their children developed, built, coded and the challenges they solved.   Campers will learn the core values of First lego League which are:
  • teamwork,
  • discovery,
  • inclusion,
  • innovation,
  • impact, and
  • fun.

These values guide participants to apply “Gracious Professionalism” and “Cooperation” through respectful, helpful, and friendly competition – while solving engineering problems and learning new skills.

To develop our robotics, we use LEGO SPIKE PRIME but include the Full Expansion Kits that include multiple sensors to build NEW robotic mechanisms, using sensors to trigger various robotic mechanics and navigation.

The program also includes:
